Privacy Policy

The short version: SentinelHome101 does not collect, transmit, sell, or share your personal data. All scanning runs entirely on your local machine and network. Nothing leaves your computer except via two explicitly opt-in features that are disabled by default.

What data we collect

SentinelHome101 stores the following data locally on your machine in C:\Users\[YourName]\AppData\Roaming\SentinelHome101\:

Scan history — dates, scores, finding counts, and device counts from previous scans
Device database — IP addresses, MAC addresses, manufacturer names, and hostnames of devices discovered on your network
Security findings — descriptions of issues found on your network and machine
Application settings — your preferences such as scan profile, network name, and theme
Ransomware canary file records — file paths and SHA-256 hashes of planted canary files

This data never leaves your machine. It is stored in a local SQLite database file that only SentinelHome101 reads and writes.

What we do not collect

No usage analytics or telemetry
No crash reports
No device identifiers
No scan results transmitted to any server
No tracking of how you use the application

External service connections

Two features optionally connect to external services. Both are disabled by default and require you to explicitly enable them in Settings.

Data retention

All locally stored data remains on your machine until you delete it. There is no automatic data expiry. To remove all data completely, delete the folder at C:\Users\[YourName]\AppData\Roaming\SentinelHome101\.

Children's privacy

SentinelHome101 is designed for home network administration and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a future version, the updated policy will be published here and the effective date will be updated. Continued use of the software after a policy change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

Disclaimer of warranties

SentinelHome101 is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

The developer does not warrant that the software will detect all security vulnerabilities, that results will be accurate or complete, or that use of the software will prevent any security incident.

SentinelHome101 is a diagnostic and reporting tool only — it does not make changes to your system, network, or devices. All remediation actions are taken solely by the user at their own discretion. Use at your own risk.
